Traveling by car from carsharing costs the same, regardless of the time of day, night or national holidays.
In Warsaw, several car systems are in operation for minutes, in the first half of the year, as the town hall informs, subsequent operators plan to launch the next ones. Since the car race, which the city was two years ago, a lot has changed. And users have more than two years of experience, mostly positive, but there are also a few drawbacks, especially hidden in costs, as well as the lack of an appropriate insurance offer.
A car for minutes means flexibility
I will start with my own story. My car broke down when I left for my family. I came back to Warsaw using the Blablacar service. When we arrived in Warsaw, instead of calling a taxi and waiting for it in the freezing temperature of minus 10 degrees, I still booked a car for rent in one of the carsharing network. The driver dropped me off the car, after two minutes I was driving home. I paid 10 zlotys for such a Sunday car trip, for a taxi on this route, as I checked, I would pay 30 zlotys. What’s more, I passed the animal with no problem, the cat sat insulted in the container, but traveled in peace and warmth. The tram would be stressed by the noise and crowd of people.
A colleague in the editorial board stated that he had given up his own car completely, and recently, also from Wroclaw, he had transported his ski equipment by car from carsharing. The cost is 360 PLN. By train theoretically it would be cheaper, but you would need to add transport to the station and from the station to your home. With tickets for two people (a minimum of PLN 140 plus about PLN 60 for taxis), the price for comfort is not drastically higher. On the other hand, the journey from Blablacar from Wrocław to Warsaw is about PLN 60, so this way of traveling is not the cheapest. However, it is possible.
Cars from carsharing are also a good opportunity when we did not plan to travel, but suddenly a need arose. – Sometimes I use them after training, when I do not want to go home on foot or when I go from the airport. Possibly after leaving the theater in the evening, writes Marta. Many users pointed to the airport, such solutions are popular abroad, in Berlin or – Florence, where they cost a lot less than taxi travel.
No car maintenance costs
You do not have to buy a car to drive a car by yourself. The costs of compulsory insurance are lost – about PLN 800 per year, fuel – minimum PLN 200 per month, review – PLN 120 every year and periodic repairs. The user pays a well-known rate per minute and per kilometer, they are not interested in paying for parking, fuel, car maintenance or car wash. The heads of car sharing companies say that they dream of users treating such cars as an element of public transport, tram, bus or taxi.
As it appears from the practice, the travel costs alone range from 1/3 to ½ of the cost of travel by taxi. Therefore, it is not a solution for everyday commuting. The price for rent depends on the network. And so in the system of the largest company Traficar, each kilometer traveled costs 0.80 PLN, a minute drive – 0.50 PLN, and a stop at 0.10 PLN. The prices are identical in Krakow, Warsaw, Wrocław, Silesia and other cities. In Panek, it is a bit cheaper, in Warsaw for a kilometer we pay from PLN 0.65 (depending on the brand, the cheapest will be Toyota Yaris Hybrid, and the most expensive … Polonez Caro).
For a minute’s ride and stop, rates are similar – 0.5 and 0.1 PLN, respectively. If we want to rent a car for the whole day, we pay PLN 90 for the period, and the rate for kilometers for this. The first car reservation for 15 minutes is free, for another one within 24 hours we pay PLN 0.1 per minute. A similar offer has 4mobility, but also offers a BMW i3 rental, where there is no kilometer rate, we pay only PLN 1.30 per minute. In individual cities there are even smaller networks – EasyShare in Poznań and Łódź, ClicToGo in Poznań, and Vozilla in Wrocław. The great advantage is the lack of parking fees. In Warsaw, we get out of the car and – if we have parked correctly – the car no longer interests us. In Wrocław, similarly, carsharing cars have special dedicated parking spaces. Another thing is that the residents of Wrocław complain that they are usually left by private cars.
Cars for cheaper minutes than taxis
Taxis offer passengers a different tariff for the day, another for a night, another for Sunday and holidays, and finally – it costs more to travel outside the first zone. The whole complicated system of fees was offset by carsharing. Using the car for minutes, without subsidies you can pass the city limits, if you want to return to the zone at the end of the trip. There is no, unlike taxi driving, fees for slamming the door, which usually starts from. PLN 8 There is also no carsharing equivalent of taxi mafia or fake taxis with the word “such” instead of taxi. We have not yet made up for the gray car sharing area, although the future will surely bring surprises.

Insufficient market saturation is one of the most common objections. Fig. shutterstock
Carsharing wins the simplicity of service with classic car rental companies. An account can be created on a cell, take a picture of a driving license by cell. Reservation lasts as much as finding a car on a map in a cell, the car is also started with a cell phone. We do not have to go to a rental company, in Poland the system based on an open parking model prevails, cars are standing all over the city, although their availability changes over the course of the day. In the morning more is near the settlements, in the early afternoon in the center. The other thing is the availability of cars, their still too small number makes us return to the topic in the chapter on defects. All users praise cars for rent for modernity – cars are usually new, many of them are electric and with automatic transmission, which is very comfortable in traffic jams.
Not enough cars per minute
Insufficient market saturation is one of the most common objections. In the afternoon there is no sign of cars around the offices, in the morning it is difficult to find a car near housing estates. – Three approaches to the subject and three decisions on resignation – writes Anita. She wanted to use car services for minutes when she was left without her own car and had to take her children somewhere. However, she quickly gave up because she would have to defeat the car too long. – For me, this is not a problem, but for a mother with two children who has to reach the car and attract seats to the designated stopping place, this is too much trouble – he says.
In this situation, users often save themselves by using all networks at once. – I use three available Panek, 4mobility and Trafficar applications. When I have all three networks, there will always be a car within 5 minutes’ walk – writes Mateusz.
The car for minutes is also not the best solution for capped times of the day. – For me the biggest inconvenience in using carsharing are two limitations. The blood floods me when I pay for the traffic in traffic. The second disadvantage is riding around and looking for a place to park – Mateusz writes about his recent experiences, after which he decided to travel – by metro.
Another thing is the driving range. A part of the network has branches in different cities, so you can go through Traficarem from Warsaw to Krakow etc. But in the majority of travel networks, however, we must end up in the same city. From Panek, Warsaw, you can get to the cheap Modlin airport, which is an interesting alternative to trains or taxis.
Surprising additional fees
Most users mark “I have read the regulations”, not looking at them. It is simply an obligation to use the service. And this is a mistake. In the “fees” tabs you will find only the basic travel costs, i.e. how much we pay per kilometer and minute. Surprises are paid by reading the rules. And the costs there can surprise you.
The most interesting is the penalty for replacing the driver. For the provision of a car to drive a third party in the Panek network, we will pay … 5000 PLN. In a hypothetical situation, if we have two people, customers of the network, and one person unloads the cell, and the other has a working phone, but can not drive, because, for example, drinking alcohol – waiting for their trip by taxi. In Traficor, we will pay PLN 500 in the same situation. The costs of moving the vehicle due to improper parking of the vehicle is up to PLN 250, we will pay PLN 800 for losing the key, for cleaning the car in connection with the carriage of animals – PLN 80. We will pay up to PLN 250 for smoking in the car. And so on, we recommend reading the regulations before the first trip.
PLN 1000 for a cullet
Each trip may result in a car damage. Only cars that are not going out of the garage are safe, and here it can be different. Meanwhile, customers of carsharing networks often do not know that they will pay for bumps and abrasions, and quite a lot. For damage to the car, the driver will pay the amount “corresponding to the value of damage according to the expert system evaluation for the valuation of damage and vehicle values”, even up to PLN 1,000. Well, unless he proves that he is not responsible for this. Such proving, including the assistance of accident reconstruction experts, also costs.
In your own car, the cost of damage to, for example, the body may be covered by the Autocasco insurance. In the case of car sharing, it is generally not possible to cover these civil liability insurance fees in private life, because this type of policy often excludes driving vehicles. This, however, may change, after all, these services have been developing strongly for only two years. – The insurance market sees the development of this type of services and with the appropriate scale of demand, there will probably be new products covering own share. The game could include either completely new insurance, or for example OC in private life, including events related to road traffic – Marcin Tarczyński, communication manager at the Polish Insurance Association.
It happens differently. Websites are not particularly transparent, if the client wants to get to know her well before using the service, he may have a problem. Some of the fees are in the fees section, and some in the regulations. It is difficult to find out in which cities the services are offered. Evidently some companies have recently focused on business development, not websites.
